Some do God’s work. I do Melpomene’s work.
Melpomene is the Muse of tragedy. Four syllables: Mel-po-me-nee. She’s one of the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne (memory). The others are:
Calliope, Muse of epic poetry
Clio, Muse of history
Euterpe, Muse of Music
Erato, Muse of lyric poetry
Polyhymnia, Muse of hymns
Terpsichore, Muse of dance
Thalia, Muse of comedy
Urania, Muse of astronomy
Melpomene and her sisters personify and inspire the arts and sciences. To do Melpomene’s work is to work on her behalf composing, producing, acting, and theorizing on tragedy and the nature of the tragic.
In this blog, I talk about my interests and goals in the hopes that it will persuade others to follow their dreams. There’s more out there than the 9-5. Pick one of the Muses, and you will not go wrong.
